| Senior Research Scholar Program | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Since the inception of IHPP as the Senior Research Scholar (SRS) program in 1998, the program has been supported by various government and research institutes. In the initial phase during 1998-2004, it was funded by a non-profit funding agency, the Thailand Research Fund (TRF), through an institutional grant with collaboration of Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI) and Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). |

Dr. Viroj Tangcharoensathien, the director of IHPP, got the Senior Research Scholar of The Thailand Research Fund twice to build up the capacity of young researchers. In his first award 1998-2001, he conducted many research projects related to health care finance, costing study, health systems and policy.Then in 2001-2004, the research projects of SRS were transferred to be a program under the management of IHPP. They were research projects on health systems and policy in 4 areas: (1) Universal Coverage/ Health Security; (2) Health Systems; (3) Regulation; and (4) HIV/AIDS. |

As a result of broadening interest and responses to rapid increasing demand by policy makers through commissioned researches, the numbers of research project and mentoring researchers were expanded beyond what was promised to the two funding agencies: Thailand Research Fund and Health Systems Research Institute. With the same budget supported by Thailand Research Fund and Health Systems Research Institute, SRS managed to produce more than what committed and evolved over the period to be policy relevant and focus not only publications, but on policy utilities. This is one of the key mandates by Health Systems Research Institute. Among the projects were out of the contract. These research projects were supported by a range of domestic and international research funding agencies. |
